Lover’s Yoke Puzzle

Description

Object: Start with one wooden bead on each of the two loops and try to get the two beads together on one loop without untying the string.

Legend: This puzzle was used as an intelligence test many years ago. When a young man came to ask for the hand of the girl he loved, he was given this puzzle by the girl’s father. The father would say to the young man, “If you are smart enough to figure out this puzzle, you may marry my daughter.” Naturally the wooden beads represent the two young lovers.
