Description
Effect: The magician removes a red-backed deck of cards from a red case. He fans the deck, the backs toward the audience. From his pocket he removes a blue-backed card and the back only is displayed. This blue-backed card is placed into the middle of the red deck and the fan is closed.
The magician now gives the deck a shuffle and asks for a volunteer from the audience. The volunteer can and possibly should be chosen by other members of the audience. This is to get away from the idea that there is a secret confederate. The magician explains that he wishes the volunteer to run through the cards face up, and when he sees a card he fancies, to call out the name of the card.
Taking back the deck the magician fans the faces of the cards toward the audience. Very slowly, until he comes to the named card, which is out-jogged or pushed upward from the fan for about half its length. The fanned deck is now slowly turned around and the out-jogged card is seen to have a blue back. It is the blue-backed card that was displayed at the start of the effect, and is removed from the deck and is the very card named by the volunteer!
